A Sip of Nectar

Subject: Ruby-Throated Hummingbird
Indianapolis, Indiana
A patch of red lobelias growing near a forest stream is a sure bet for attracting hummingbirds--the little zippers can hardly resist the brilliant red taxis and sweet nectar for which they have come to know this flower. This young hen dances around the lobelias for just a few seconds before dashing back to the safety of the forest depths, returning periodically to sip the nectar or to chase away other intruding females that happen upon her secret.
